First Look At 2010 Team Agni TT Zero Bike
Amadeus Photography came through again with the first view of the 2010 Team Agni bike which Rob Barber rode to the fastest qualifying time in the first practice session yesterday.
Below is a video of the three bikes that did the practice session. Team Agni, SERT and MotoCzysz. Ten teams will race in the final this Wednesday including (I heard) an electric scooter.

This Is E1ectr1c
Here is the first spy photo of the 2010 MotoCzysz e1pc in the pits of TT Zero at the Isle Of Man TT. Someone was nice enough to grace Asphalt And Rubber with a tip on the first Electric D1g1tal Dr1ve (eDD) Superbike. Completely sick. According to HFL the motor is not where you think it is. Have a look at the chain coming off what is usually drive sprocket location.

TTXGP Round 2 At Road America
TTXGP’s next stop is in the beautiful rolling hills of Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin at Road America. Seven teams are confirmed for the race. It appears Team Agni will attempt to defend their crown alone without Zero Motorcycles for the second round of the US TTXGP. Also, Zoe Rem who rode for Pril Racing at Infineon will replace first place finisher Shawn Higbee as the pilot for the Agni bike. Richard Hatfield and his Lightning Motors team are back with rider Michael Barnes who put up an excellent fight against the Zero Agni bike. Third place finisher Mike Hannas and the Electric Race Bikes team are on site looking for another podium but will be looking at some stiff competition.
Electric Motorsport and Team Electra had issues with a set screw in their AC20 motors preventing them from showing their best at Infineon. Look for Thad Wolff on the Electra to put some pressure on the Electric Race Bikes team. Electric Motorsport has been building electric motorcycles for a long time and finished first in the Open Class at TTXGP in 2009 at the Isle of Man. Don’t count them out for a podium finish on their R6 conversion. Jennifer Bromme and the Werkstatt Racing Mavizen finished fourth at Infineon and could also put pressure on Mike Hannas for third.
In contrast to Infineon, Road America is a longer track at ~4 miles and has a very long straight that begins with a long uphill climb. Energy conservation will play a greater role as riders will have to weigh the benefits of full throttle down the straight with the risk of running out of juice before the finish.
If you’re camping on the track on Saturday night, shoot me a tweet or an email. The Wisconsin folks know how to party and not much sleeping happens. You can count on many beverages, smoking plywood and vulgar displays of petrol abuse before you fall asleep to the sound of liter bike rev limiters in the background. Love me some Elkhart Lake.

Team Ecolve Enters The 2010 TT Zero
The UK based Ecolve team has set up camp in the TT Zero pits and with the help of Amadeus Photography introduced their electric race bike to the world in style. The shots you see here were taken at an airfield on the Isle Of Man with the fire department adding some nice visual effects.
Mark Buckley finished third in the TTXGP at Isle Of Man in 2009 aboard the Brammo TTR, a modified Brammo Enertia. Brammo will not be taking part in the 2010 TT Zero but Buckley found a ride with the Ecolve Bolt team and has been working with them to prep the bike for a win.

SERT Racing’s Bumblebee In The TT Zero Pits
The 2010 Isle Of Man TT is ramping up with bikes filling the pits and practice laps starting around the island. One of the first teams in the TT Zero pits is the Swedish Electric Racing Team (aka SERT Racing) with their Bumblebee electric race bike. Technical information on the ex-Stiggy Racing CBR600RR conversion is scarce but the green-theme paint job is top notch. The faux underseat exhaust and stuffed bumblebee mascot hint at a great sense of humor of the team. Chris Palmer will ride the Bumblebee when it hits the track for practice and the race on June 9th.
Frank of Amadeus Photography is already on the streets snapping pictures of the two teams currently in the TT Zero pits. Expect pictures of the Ecolve Bolt tomorrow followed by MotoCzysz and Team Tork when they arrive.
In 2009 Frank was the goto guy for IOM TT pics and 2010 is shaping up to be the same. Might want to bookmark the site or subscribe to the RRS feed. Jump to Frank’s blog and the SERT Racing website for more information on the Bumblebee and the people behind the project. Sounds like Frank has some plans for a photo shoot with the team tomorrow so stay tuned.
Hit the break for some TT Zero history, Franks’ pics of the SERT Racing TT Zero bike and some videos of the Bumblebee in action.

Video Of The 2010 TTXGP Round 1 At Infineon Raceway
Julie at Zero Motorcycles sent over a great video of the 2010 TTXGP race at Infineon Raceway. It includes the commentary of the race announcers that could be heard during the race. There are some great views from multiple cameras on Shawn Higbee’s race winning Zero/Agni electric race bike as he battles Michael Barnes on the yellow Lightning Motors bike.
The video speaks for itself. Enjoy!

Videos Of The EV1 Powered Lightning Motors vs. Zero Agni
“If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you could possibly imagine.”
The electric motorcycle world has been buzzing about the heated battle between Shawn Higbee on the Zero Agni and Michael Barnes on the Lightning Motors bike. Shawn rode the lighter, more agile Zero quickly through the turns while the 525+ pound weight and poor ground clearance of the “Yellow Banana” kept Barney from taking an optimal line through the turns. The strong acceleration of the Saturn EV1 powered Lightning Motors bike allowed Barnes to reel Higbee in on the straights when the tight course opened up.
Check out the videos after the break.

2010 TTXGP Round 1 Results At Infineon Raceway
“Anyone who thought this would not be competitive is out of thier mind!” was the announcers words after the first few laps of TTXGP at Infineon Raceway. Shawn Higbee took first place on the Zero/Agni bike after a back and forth battle with Michael Barnes of Lightning Motors. Barnes had some technical issues which caused him to slow down towards the end of the race but held on for second place. At one point he brought the bike to a stop at the end of the start/finish straight to let it cool down. Mike Hannas took third place on the Electric Race Bikes machine.
The differences between the Zero/Agni bike and the Lightning Motors caused Higbee and Barnes to swap positions multiple times in succession entering and exiting turns. Barnes on the heavier and faster accelerating Lightning Motors bike used more of a point and shoot riding style where Higbee took more sweeping turns on the lighter, slower accelerating Zero/Agni. This went on for over 5 laps until the Lightning bike started to slow.

Lightning Motors TTXGP Entry – The EV1 Powered Electric Race Bike
Last year the Lightning Motors Moto-1 hit 166.388 mph on the Bonneville Salt Flats during BUB week toping Mission Motors single pass top speed. Spinning away inside the Ray Abrams trellis frame was the 3 phase AC Induction, 104 kW heart of the Saturn EV1 electric car. You know, the one GM killed? Richard Hatfield’s Lightning Motors team somehow found one and tied it to a 345 volt, 11 kWh, A123 lithium nanophosphate battery pack. The electronics between the two allow for user controllable features such as regenerative braking and data acquisition.

Electric Drive Smokes The Gassers At Mini Moto SX 2010
Quantya and Zero dominated the 150cc class against gas powered bikes during the 2010 Mini Moto SX. Drew Gosselaar took first on a Quantya MX followed by 4 Zero MX electrics. Jimmy Lewis of Dirt Rider was riding a gas bike in the race and mentioned it was obvious the electrics were going to smoke the gassers after the first practice session. Jimmy is no stranger to riding dirtbikes fast. He was the second fastest on an ICE bike beating the likes of Damon Huffman with his BBR Honda CRF150F.
