Mavizen TTX02 To Be Unveiled At SEMA Show
With electric motorcycles becoming more practical over the last few years there were a lot of teams interested in competing in the 2009 TTXGP at Isle of Man. However, in the end only 10 bikes crossed the finish line. Most teams had about 6 months to put a bike together and though simpler to build than ICE bikes, electric motorcycles still have their complexities. The clear winner was the Team Agni X01 machine built on a philosophy of simple is better.

Ultra Motor Intelligent Dual Energy Power (IDEP) Explained
Last week I wrote about the 2010 A2B Excel that was on display at Eurobike and mentioned it’s incorporation of “Intelligent Dual Energy Power” (IDEP) technology. It turns out the system does more than provide an internal and external battery. While the external battery (high energy) is removable and allows you to bring it indoors for easy charging, it is also designed to charge the internal battery (high power). Click the break to see a video of Joe Bowman, President of Ultra Motor explaining how it works.

Neiman Marcus Edition Mission One
Have a sugar mama who can’t seem to spend enough money on you and loves to tell people where she bought stuff? Good, Mission Motors has you covered with the Neiman Marcus edition Mission One. Just pick up the years 2009 Christmas Book’s Fantasy Gift List, ear mark the page 54, (the one with the Liquid cooled, 100 ft-lbs torque, liquid cooled AC Motor all-electric motorcycle) and slip it in her pilates bag.
Then marvel in you cute clever ways as you count down the days until Christmas morning mid-2010 when you can tear up the streets at 150 mph without any tail pipe emissions or engine noise. So green. On your way back be sure to critique the engine braking and power delivery so you can tune it on your Mac with the USB ignition key that stores regenerative braking / engine braking settings. Go ahead and take the long way through the twisties and pretend you are Tom Montano in the 2009 TTXGP, the Mission One has a 150 mile range, your covered.

MotoCzysz Teams With Bajaj On “Dream” Project
MotoCzysz has been said to be in talks with a major manufacturer on a hybrid electric motorcycle. It turns out it is India based Bajaj Auto and they are working on a “clean sheet design” of a “Next Generation Automobile”.
MotoCzysz and Bajaj both have a lot of varied experience in the motorcycle industry. Bajaj in small bike design and manufacturing and MotoCzysz in design and smaller scale, high performance sportbikes. Bajaj also owns a large share in KTM. KTM is known to be working on an electric MX bike that is due out in 2010.
Once motorcycles are in peoples blood it is tough to get them out. With all the motorcycle culture in this partnership how could a two wheeled vehicle not emerge? I guess until we see it we have to assume it could be a 2, 3, 4 or no wheeled vehicle. It is however a very safe bet it will be at least partially electric drive. For now we can hope the “Dream” will be two wheeled.

TTXGP Team Tork India T-001X
In 2009, Team Tork India took third place with their T-001X Open Class electric motorcycle in the TTXGP at Isle Of Man. Details about the team were rare before and during the event. Now the team has a twitter account and a website presence and appear to be doing interviews with media outlets in India over the last few weeks.
The T-001X is based on a custom engineered trellis frame chassis designed by Kapil Shelke, Pankaj Gosavi, Ketan Mhasawade and Krunal Nanavati, all in their early 20’s. They are all graduates of D Y Patil College of Engineering in Akurdi, India. The project was funded by their parents and the bike was fabricated at Kapil’s fathers business Tirupathi Engineers. Triupathi Engineers has expertise in smart grid technology and infrastructure.
The pilot of the T-001X was the multi-talented John Crellin who died in a crash in the Senior TT soon after his 3rd place TTXGP finish. Team Tork and Mr. Crellin were visibly thrilled by their major accomplishment as he pulled into the press area after the race. I’m not sure how much time John had to learn the bike but in the video below you can see him being introduced to the T-001X in the TTXGP padock. The team, with a little help from Team Agni‘s team leader Arvind Rabadia (left) explains to Crellin that the bike has no gears and includes regenerative braking which is activated by tapping the brake lever.
Later in the day Crellin took the bike for a test spin on the streets of the Isle Of Man in traffic. The support van with Team Tork tried desperately to keep up.
We have heard there was quite a bit of comradery in the pits of the TTXGP to go along with the excitement of the historic event. Team Agni’s motor and electronics guru Cedric Lynch also took a spin on the T-001X. Lynch is the inventor of the Lynch Motor which was used in many of the bikes including Tork, Brunel X-Team and the three in the MotoCzysz E1pc.
After the race the Indian Ambasador congratulated Team Tork and first place Anglo-Indian Team Agni on their finish and related the significance of the accomplishment to India launching satellites.
In the future Team Tork plans to race in the Pro Class of the 2010 TTXGP and hopes to make an inexpensive version of their electric race bike available to the public.

Honda Unveils EVE-neo and EVE-Cub Electrics
Honda has published photos of a few battery electric scooters they plan to display in Tokyo next month at the 2009 Annual Tokyo Motor Show. One of the scooters, the EVE-neo, looks close to being production ready but Honda has not mentioned whether it is the all electric bike they plan to sell in 2010. Honda explains the EVE-Neo “achieves clean and tough performance that only an electric-powered scooter can provide.”

Brammo + iPod Rider Community In Planning?
I really wanted to not do any more Brammo posts this week but they make that very difficult when they post teasers like this to twitter…
The Brammo boys (head of design and mechanical engineering) make a trip to Nike for a product development presentation at Nike HQ on Friday
Now what would they be doing at Nike HQ? I have a hunch they might be planning a product similar to Nike + iPod that integrates with Brammo’s built in GPS to catalog an owners rides. Nike + iPod has a sensor that you insert in your shoe and it sends information to your iPod. Nike explains it like this:

Ultra Motor A2B Excel Electric Scooter
The A2B Excel is an all electric scooter by London based Ultra Motor that was on display at EuroBike 2009 in Friedrichshafen, Germany. You may think it looks a lot like a bicycle and with good reason. The first incarnation of the A2B has pedals. The Excel features large platforms where the bottom bracket and cranks usually reside and has a head light, turn signals, a tail light and an instrument cluster. Top speed is also up 8 mph over the pedal shod A2B at 28 mph. The Excel features an 800W hub motor where the A2B has a 500W unit. The cost of the bike is around $5300 (€ 3,199) but no word if this model will be imported to the US.
Update: The Excel will be coming to the USA.

Brammo Scooter Details Emerge
Just last month Brammo rolled out their all electric Enertia to two Oregon Best Buy locations. Last week the first Enertia was delivered to a customer in Iowa. Now new details are emerging on one of the hinted next products of Brammo. Asphalt And Rubber recently got a sneak peak at what Brammo has dubbed the Anti-scooter which they say bears a resemblance to the Honda Ruckus.

Brammo Logo Design Down to Two
After a controversial decision to crowd source their new logo it looks like Brammo is down to two designs. Earlier this summer the CP+B interns’ attempts at designing a logo for Brammo fell short so contest was started on CrowdSpring.com. Crowd Spring allows a company to post requirements for a design and allows designers to submit their work. The company holding the contest will pick a winner and award money for the winning design. In the case of the Brammo contest the award was $1000.
This move drew a lot of controversy in the design world as many felt their work was being commoditized and there was no way a good design could come from a contest like this. Alex Bogusky, CEO of CP+B and an avid motorcycle rider is no stranger to controversy and did not hesitate to put his two cents in on the topic. CP+B have had some very successful, high profile campaigns with the “I’m a PC” campaign for Microsoft and the crazy commercials for Burger King.
Now the Brammo logo contest is over and it looks like 3 awards of $1000 went two 3 designers. There are two good choices for a logo fro Brammo. One is Alex’s favorite and one is Brammo CEO Craig Bramscher’s favorite. A third design will become the image on a Brammo t-shirt. Personally I like the design by Los Angeles designer Bryant Fernandez. We will be looking at this logo for a long time so be sure to tell Craig what you think.
