Brammo Wins 38 Interns on ebay

A favorite word in the Brammo camp is “disruptive”.  I am not sure exactly what CEO Craig Bramscher means by that.  If I had to guess I’d say it means they plan to turn the powersports electronics industry on it’s head by changing the way people think about motorcycles. Brammo is doing it’s share of disrupting and doing a lot of it at a blistering pace.

Over the past few months Brammo have tossed aside the dealer model and secured a distribution and sales deal with Best Buy, moved to a new headquarters, established a strong social media presence on twitter, prepared 2 bikes for the TTXGP, hired amazingly talented executives, given dozens of interviews and that is only what we know about.

Now Brammo has some help. Yesterday they won an ebay auction of 38 interns for US $17,655.00 from Crispin Porter + Bogusky, a marketing firm out of Miami, FL. Winning this auction not only brings Brammo a lot of fresh brain power and first hand insight into the minds of the next generation of riders, it also brought them much attention on twitter and the blogosphere.

One of CPB’s many high profile clients is Geek Squad who will most likely be trained to service the Brammo Enertia when it goes on sale at Best Buy later this year. I assume the Geek Squad relationship is how Brammo came to know CPB.  This partnership should be a great deal for both companies. The interns will learn a lot from Brammo’s top notch executive staff and the bright, young CPB interns will bring fresh thought and enthusiasm to the team. It should be interesting to see what projects Brammo puts them on. The Enertia has an open API and is GPS and Wifi enabled so possible projects at Brammo are numerous. It all depends on how big Mr. Bramscher and his team are dreaming.

For now, the market for plug bikes is open for the taking.  With strong competition from MotoGP bred MotoCzysz, Zero Motorcycles, Quantya and soon KTM and Honda, Brammo needs to be disruptive to survive and they seem to be making great progress. 38 interns with fresh perspectives on marketing should make the disruption even more interesting to watch.
